The Senior Buyer will be responsible to ensure required project-based materials are purchased and delivered to customers and production/warehouse facilities at a competitive cost that meets or exceeds quality expectations.  Under the direction of Corporate Purchasing and coordinating with corporate staff, this mechanically inclined individual compiles information and records to properly prepare and execute purchase orders for procurement of material to support efficient operations while adhering to all policies, procedures and instructions as defined in Purchasing Policies, or any other instruction issued by the company.

Responsibilities

  1. Consult with vendors and other company employees to gather necessary information to procure required materials in the most cost effective fashions and at the best value to the company. Participate actively in the assessment of product quality, timeliness, service, delivery and other factors impacting total value to the company.
  2. Supplier selection, price negotiation, vendor allocation, personal guidance and adherence to purchasing policy.
  3. Monitor quality and timeliness of purchased items to ensure they meet expected quality criteria. Responds as required by Quality procedures for any non-compliance issues. Follow up with vendors to insure implementation of effective corrective actions. Verify all required information for the proper specifications of purchase requests.
  4. Maintain knowledge of industry factors that impact the procurement process and react to changes in product availability, price, quality, and other value factors as directed by Corporate Purchasing. Utilize Purchase Planning reports to facilitate ordering and delivery of materials.
  5. Coordinate with Inventory Team on physical counts/measures and cycle counts to ensure accurate data is available to make proper purchasing decisions. Work with Planning Group and other staff to monitor inventory system and to recommend proper Min/Max levels as directed by sales/marketing/operations.
  6. Issue PO’s by entering PO’s into the electronic system. Expedite orders when necessary. Track the receipt and vendor performance of these PO’s and send Terms and Conditions for purchased materials. Administer purchase contracts with vendors (price, schedule, quality, and terms) for products, materials, and/or services as directed by Corporate Purchasing. Monitor items purchased or transferred between departments, prices, deliveries, and inventories.
  7. Confer with suppliers concerning quality, late deliveries, or other service issues. Use non-conformity reports and appropriate follow up to ensure effective solutions are established. Monitor and control inventory distribution for new product launches initiated in the plant. Responsible for inventory replenishment and the purchasing of key materials to support locations as well as direct shipments to customers.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor degree in business, finance, accounting or engineering
  2. Five years or more experience in a Buying role, purchasing mechanical or electrical components and assemblies
  3. Preferred experience using ERP system with strong competency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
  4. Excellent communication skills (verbal & written), with strong attention to details and ability to follow a defined process
  5. Established negotiation skills, Knowledge of market conditions and sources of supply
  6. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with proven skills in collaboration and teamwork as well as an ability to work independently, often without supervision
  7. Strong mathematical aptitude as well as verbal and written communication skills
  8. Good working knowledge of manufacturing production and fabrication, distribution principles and practices, preferably in the industry
